We started our other business, Royale with Cheese, back in 2013 in Austin, Texas. When we moved back to San Diego in 2014 we started Nopalito Farm and eventually reopened Royale with Cheese at Park & Rec in University Heights. And now it has grown to a full service restaurant called ROYALE in Ocean Beach, CA. We love to source locally as much as it makes sense and we use what we can from the farm. Right now our cocktail menu at Royale has passionfruit, lemons, limes & guavas from Nopalito Farm. See more photos from Jim Sullivan's and we will soon have a video from him too. Hope you can make it by!

Not to mention, how they contribute to Good, Clean & Fair Beer for All. (Panelists: Erik Jensen, head brewer of Green Flash, Matt Roberts of Stone Brewing Co., Brett Goldstock of Duck Foot Beer and Mariah and Jordan of Nopalito Farm & Hopyard) From O'Brien's Pub News:
"It is one of my favorite times of the year – hop harvest. And that means fresh hop beers made with hops picked right off the vines and used before they are dried. San Diego has a small but growing hop farm community. We have teamed up with the San Diego Hop Growers Association (http://www.sdhga.org/) to bring you a weekend of San Diego hopped beers on September 11, 12 and 13. The hop harvest in San Diego happens earlier than the hop harvest in the northwest where most of the country’s hops are grown. And while we will be doing our regular Wet Hop Festival on October 16, 17 and 18, we just couldn’t wait to tap all of the delicious locally hopped brews this year. We are expecting more than 15 beers brewed with San Diego grown hops from Mexico to Temecula with lots of San Diego breweries in there. Look for information on the Facebook page as we continue to confirm the line up (https://www.facebook.com/obrienspubsd). We are expecting beers from Culture, Insurgente, Chuckalek, Iron Fire, Monkey Paw, South Park Brewing, Nickel and several others. The plan is to tap the beers on Friday and pour them through the weekend. We’ll have members of the San Diego Hop Growers Association there on Saturday the 12th from roughly 1-5 pm to talk hops and answer questions about growing hops in San Diego. Don’t miss this one a year chance to taste this delicious wet hopped beers." LOCAL BEERS WITH LOCAL HOPS by RYAN LAMB
WEST COASTER // AUGUST 2015 See full feature here on West Coaster! Nopalito Farms in Valley Center promises to be one of the most active growers and sellers this year. They’re working with at least five local breweries, plus Tijuana’s Cervecería Insurgente, which is planning a small, two-barrel Chinook and Cascade wet hop ale for their newly-opened tasting room. Two SD breweries will give their core beers a wet hop treatment: Fall Brewing with (TBD hops) Spirit of ’77; and Intergalactic with Chinook and Cascade Andromeda IPA. Nickel Beer Co. and Monkey Paw/South Park Brew Co. are planning special brews as well. Tom Nickel at Julian’s Nickel Beer Co. brewed with 42 pounds of fresh Cascade and Chinook on July 27 to commemorate his twentieth year in San Diego’s beer industry; he started full-time at Home Brew Mart in August of 1995. The beer is called My Way IPA. Cosimo Sorrentino at Monkey Paw/South Park Brew Co. is planning two same-day brews. In the first and second weeks of August, he’ll be in Valley Center at 5 a.m. to help start picking, before driving down around noon to start the brew while the hops are being stripped. The first batch, at SPBC, will likely be more “English/Northwest” and Chinook-heavy. The Monkey Paw Same Day XPA will feature Crystal and Zeus. Nopalito Farms has taken over the plot of ZP Growers, which kept the name and moved over to Fallbrook. Owner Lyle Kafader told us they’ll be supplying homebrewers this year as they ramp up production. Join us for IPA Day at The Patio on Goldfinch for an evening of Hops, Chocolate (Andrea's Truffles) & Beer!
